Northwich Vic 2 NFU 0 (Evo Prem)
Northwich Victoria 2-0 North Ferriby United

 By Graham Riley

Northwich returned to winning ways with a goal in each half against North Ferriby, who gave new manager Billy Heath plenty of positives to build on in spite of the defeat. After a performance much improved on recent games, the Villagers were unlucky not to have at least a goal to show for their efforts.

Ferriby's Steve Wilson was the first of the goalkeepers to be tested when he saved a Wayne Riley free kick, while at the other end, Ben Hinchliffe was forced into action by Gary Bradshaw after the striker had dispossessed Northwich defender Ian Kearney. Vics snatched the advantage on 26 minutes through a man making his debut for the club; the visitors' defence failed to deal with Michael Roddy's free kick and Jordan Johnson slotted into the bottom corner. It could have been two just before the break when another Roddy set piece was headed fractionally wide by Chris Burdys.

A fired-up Ferriby nearly drew level minutes into the second period. Peter Davidson, on his return to the club having left in the summer, had his first effort blocked and his second cleared off the line. Johnson's debut would get even better on 53 minutes when the winger latched onto a clearance to fire smartly into the top corner from 20 yards. Ferriby fought hard to salvage something from the game in the final half hour, Luke Thompson had an effort blocked at close quarters by Hinchliffe, and Greg Wright had one long-range effort caught by the home keeper and another just over the crossbar. Heath's men are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Ashton United to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
