North Ferriby United 6-0 Whitby Town
North Ferriby United were in imperious form as a great all-round team performance saw the Villagers fire six past struggling Whitby Town at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium. Chris White and Gary Bradshaw both helped themselves to a brace, with Wayne Brooksby and Chris Bolder adding the finishing touches to a dominant victory.
Ferriby created problems for their hosts from the off, with Bolder half-volleying wide in the opening seconds, and they edged ahead on 12 minutes with a lovely flowing move. White fed Russell Fry from wide left, and Fry then threaded the ball through to Bradshaw, who turn his marker in the box and slid it into the bottom corner. Ferriby keeper Steve Wilson kept the hosts ahead by blocking efforts from Andrew Leeson and Leon Scott; and White doubled the advantage on 36 minutes, when Bradshaw stepped over a Brooksby cross, allowing White to curl a shot beyond David Campbell in the Whitby goal. The winger grabbed his second just six minutes later, when Bolder looped a ball into the box and despite mis-hitting his shot, White still managed to lob the ball over a startled Campbell and into the centre of the net.
Whitby seemed determined to find their way back into the game early in the second half, Leeson worked a nice one-two with Alex White, but the latter was unable to get on the end of the former's final ball; and Ged Dalton wriggled free in the box to send a stinging shot just wide of Wilson's far post. But a faultless final 15 minutes saw Ferriby put the tie beyond doubt. It was four on 77 minutes when White led a breakaway and picked out Bolder, who in turn found Bradshaw who curled in his second. Brooksby claimed the fifth on 83 minutes, running onto Bradshaw's defence-splitting through ball, rounding Campbell and tapping into an empty net, and the rout was completed when Fry burst into the box and picked out Bolder sliding in at close-range.
