North Ferriby United 3-0 Hucknall Town
By Graham Riley
North Ferriby tightened their hold on second position in the league with a straightforward three-goal victory over struggling Hucknall at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
The visitors had the best early chances, with Ferriby keeper Steve Wilson having to catch David Graham's hooked volley and slide in to block Tristram Whitman's shot, while his opposite number Ross Whalin also produced a smart block a close quarters from Kevin Larvin. Ferriby took the lead on the break on 27 minutes, Wayne Brooksby carried the ball 50 yards before providing Chris White with an easy close-range finish. White could have doubled the hosts' advantage just before half time but volleyed Steve Burton's long ball into the side netting.
Early in the second half, Whalin produced a smart dive to deny Russell Fry and Martin Ball cleared a header from Ferriby captain Paul Foot off the line, while Graham's wide drive was Hucknall's best effort. Brooksby spurned a golden opportunity to add a second when he fired Burton's cross wide at the far post, but the points were finally made safe on 84 minutes, when Burton smartly curled home a free kick, his first Ferriby goal. Alex Davidson added the third three minutes later after Paul Harsley fed the excellent Brooksby, who held up the ball and pulled it back for Davidson to lash home.
