East Riding Senior Cup 2nd Round
Hessle Sporting Club v North Ferriby United
Tuesday 9th November 2010 Kick-off 7.45 pm
Ferriby begin their defence of the East Riding senior Cup when they take-on Humber premier League side Hessle Sporting Club.
Ferriby manager John Anderson knows that his side will be favourites to beat Hessle but he will be warning his players against complacency. Hessle will be certain to raise their game against Ferriby.
Anderson was delighted with his side's 5-2 victory at Kendal on Saturday: "It was an excellent performance and shows the strength of the squad that we have here. Kendal are never an easy team to play and to get such a comprehensive victory on their home ground was tremendous."
The starting line-up at Kendal saw Ferriby field the only 11 available players from the usual squad. The substitutes' bench was probably the most inexperienced that the Club has selected with Stephen Belcher and Rob Moy making their first trips with the first team and Gareth Owen and James Williams having made only 13 appearances between them, mainly as substitutes.
Such is the confidence in the youth and reserve structure that Anderson resisted the temptation to make short-term experienced signings for the Kendal fixture. Williams played for most of the match with Sam Denton having to leave the field after 23 minutes as he was clearly unwell.
Saturday's victory saw Ferriby climb in to the play-off spots and whilst promotion will now be the priority for the season, The Villagers will be determined to retain the East Riding Senior Cup which they won in such dramatic fashion last season. For the players it not only provides an opportunity to win a trophy but an appearance in the Final at the KC Stadium is a good climax to any season.
The performance of the whole team at Kendal gives Anderson the sort of dilemma that managers may enjoy; who to play in the next match. Chris White and Gary Bradshaw will definitely be available against Hessle.. Denton is obviously doubtful due to him being unwell and Steve Wilson and Wayne Brooksby may be given a few more days rest to overcome their injuries. Club skipper Paul Foot could be on the bench as he begins his return from injury.
Probable Ferriby Squad: Ben Hallam, Steve Wilson, Rob Moy, Ben Turner, Tom Matthews, Sam Denton, Kevin Larvin, Paul Harsley, Chris Bolder, Ben Morley, Russell Fry, Gary Bradshaw, Alex Davidson, Wayne Brooksby, Chris White, Peter Davidson, Gareth Owen, James Williams, Paul Foot
