North Ferriby United 2-0 Buxton
By Graham Riley
North Ferriby edged out Buxton in an entertaining end-to-end encounter at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium, with goals from captain Paul Foot and top scorer Gary Bradshaw.
The opening 20 minutes saw numerous chances for both sides, Scott Hartley in the Buxton goal gathered Bradshaw's close-range effort from Wayne Brooksby's flick, and his opposite number Steve Wilson did well to gather Kieran Lugsden's far post effort from Steve Ridley's corner. The hosts went ahead on 24 minutes when Foot out-jumped Hartley in the box to head home Bradshaw's floated free kick. Chris White nearly added a second just two minutes later but for Hartley's smart diving save, and Buxton's Mark Reed teed himself up for a half volley but fired over.
The post prevented Ferriby from doubling their advantage fifteen minutes after the break, with Chris Bolder's header from Russell Fry's cross looking goalbound before striking the upright. Lugsden was given a golden chance for a Buxton equaliser from Reed's flick, but couldn't get enough purchase on his headed effort. Ferriby shored up their advantage on 63 minutes when Wayne Brooksby arrowed in a cross which Bradshaw met with a perfectly-timed diving header at the near post. White could have added a third when he was released down the left by Paul Harsley, but shot well over, and Lugsden blew his chance of a consolation when he slid onto Colin Hunter's ball across goal only to poke it over.
