NFU Ladies 0 Rothwell Ladies 15 Ferriby worked hard but they were over-run by an experienced, strong and skilful side. Elly Dove, Lauren Nicholls and Hoang, again, added further goals before half-time. The second-half continued in a similar vein. Goals from Nicholls and Hoang in the first five minutes confirmed Rothwell's dominance. Rothwell scored at regular intervals with Hoang and Nicholls both completing double hat-tricks. Further goals came from Dove and Rachel Hepton. Stacey Hesletine came close for Ferriby in the 87th minute but her angled cross-shot was well-saved by Stephanie Jones diving low to her left. Ferriby Coach Shaun Harris said after the game, "Rothwell were quicker to the ball, they were better than us at the basics and displayed good skills. Shannon Meyers and Gemma Wilson worked extremely hard in midfield for us. Despite such a heavy defeat and being outplayed, we kept our heads up and battled hard." NFU: Lizzy Hodgkinson, Emma Johnson (Jacqui Cansdale 83), Jemma Winter (Claire Knack 47), Amy Crissaki, Amy Scorer, Gemma Wilson, Michala Jones (Leonie Fenton 67), Shannon Meyers, Stacey Heseltine, jenny Smith, Lindsay Holt. Sub not used: Laura Jenkinson
NFU Ladies v Rothwell LFC preview Rothwell come into the game on the back of a 3-0 win at Goole Town last Sunday. On the same day NFU were unlucky to go down to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Malet Lambert (who play in the same league as Rothwell) in the East Riding Cup. Manager Richard Watts said "This is going to be a very tough game and we will have to play at our absolute best to get a result, just as we did against Appleby Frodingham in the last round. We have nothing to lose and it will be a great experience for our players. Our strikers have been in great form this season and they are a threat to any defence, if you can score goals you always have a chance." Emma Johnson has been re-called from her loan at Leconfield to replace the absent Rachel Dean in the NFU squad. The experienced Michelle Pickles is set to have her second start for the club in midfield.
FA Women's Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
NFU Ladies went down to a heavy defeat at home to North Eastern Regional League side Rothwell Ladies.
Rothwell's Amy Hoang scored four times in the first twenty minutes and it was an uphill struggle for NFU after that. Ferriby had no answer to Hoang's clinical finishing and she tormented the home side throughout the match.
NFU Ladies play in the Second Qualifying Round of the F A Womens Cup on Sunday. In the First Qualifying Round they had one of their best ever results when they beat Appleby Frodingham 4-0. On Sunday they again face a team who play at a higher level, their opponents Rothwell play in the North East Regional League Division One South. Rothwell got to this round after beating Scunthorpe United 3-2.
NFU squad: Gemma Wilson, Lizzy Hodgskinson, Emma Johnson, Jemma Winter, Claire Knock, Katie Scorer, Amy Crissaki, Michala Jones, Shannon Meyers, Michelle Pickles, Jenny Smith, Stacey Heseltine, Lindsay Holt, Leonie Fenton & Laura Jenkinson.
North Ferriby United Ladies are in F A Cup action for the first time in their history this coming Sunday when they entertain Appleby Fodringham at Blackburns Sports Club, Brough, kick off 2pm.
North Ferriby United Ladies will be one of only two teams from Hull and East Riding who are to take part in this season's Womens F A Cup (the other is Hull City). In the First Preliminary Round The Villagers have been drawn at home to Appleby Fodringham. The tie to be played on Sunday 2 October at Blackburns Sports Ground in Brough.
Appleby Fodringham play in the East Midlands Football League Division One North, a level higher than the East Riding First Division that NFU play in. The visitors are favourites for the game and come to it in good form having beaten Mansfield Town Reserves 8-0 on Sunday.
Manager Richard Watts said, "its good to get a home draw and it will be a tough test but its a game in which we have nothing to loose and great experience for the players to play in such a competition, the F A Cup is all about lower league teams taking on those from a higher league so lets hope we can pull off a shock."
Squad: Jakki Knight (c), Lizzy Hodgskinson, Rachel Dean, Katie Scorer, Claudia Metternich, Amy Crissaki, Lindsay Holt, Gemma Wilson, Shannon Myeres, Kirsti O'Brien, Leonie Fenton, Jenny Smith, Claire Knock, Michala Jones, Laura Jenkinson & Charlie Waring.
NFU Ladies enter the Women's FA Cup
Manager Richard Watts said "its great to be involved in such a prestigious competition, Appleby Fodringham play at a higher level than us but we got the better of them in a pre-season 6 aside competition and I'm hopeful we can get a similar result in the eleven aside game. We know it will be a tough physical game but we have the players who can spring a suprise."
North Ferriby United Ladies have made a good start to the season taking four points from their first two matches. On Sunday 11th they travelled to Humanby and came back with a 3-3 draw. NFU had led 3-1 at one stage but the hosts fought back in the last 20 minutes to snatch a point they hardly deserved. Strikers Jenny Smith with a brace and Stacey Heseltine were the NFU scorers.
On Sunday the fixture list through up the return fixture. NFU put up one of their best ever displays to beat Hunmanby 8-1. It looked as it might be one of those frustrating days as The Villagers hit the wood work three times when the score was 0-0 but once Jakki Knight put NFU in front the flood gates started to open. Stacey Heseltine and Jenny Smith both scored to make it 3-0 at half time. This time NFU didn't let the game slip. Heseltine picked up a hatrick and there was another brace for Jenny Smith. Substitute Leonie Fenton scored within five minutes of coming on and soon added a second as NFU went 8-0 up, there was also time for Michala Jones to hit the underside of the bar, with the ball bouncing down on the line and some how failing to go in. The visitors scored in the last minute as NFU ran out 8-1 winners.
Manager Richard Watts said "I am delighted with the start to the season, I was very disappointed we didn't get three points away to Hunmanby as we were in control of the game. However we more than made up for that on Sunday. The players were magnificent, they kept the foot on the gas throughout and never gave Hunmanby a sniff, and this against a side that finished third in the league this season. We can look forward to a good season with a side that is improving nicely."
