North Ferriby United 3-1 Mickleover Sports

By Graham Riley

North Ferriby made it two victories and nine goals in the space of a week at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium as the Villagers continued their resurgence under Billy Heath.

For the second game in a row, the home side were ahead inside the first ten minutes, Wayne Brooksby supplying the ball across for Peter Davidson to bury first-time into the centre of the goal. Elder brother Alex Davidson could have added to Ferriby's advantage later in the half, but visiting keeper Damian Clark used his legs to push the striker's effort over the bar. The visitors came more into the game as the half progressed, Karl Ashton forced Steve Wilson to gather at point blank range having been fed by Kieran O'Connell, and the Wilson's acrobatics then kept out a free kick from Alex Steadman just before half time.

Four minutes into the second period, Martin Smythe hit a post for Sports, resulting in Nathan Peat bringing down Steadman, who sent Wilson the wrong way from the spot. Ferriby sought to atone for this lapse of concentration and restore their advantage. Sam Denton had a header cleared off the line, and in the final ten minutes the tie was won as Gary Bradshaw blasted into the top corner from Paul Foot's free kick, then unselfishly provided Wayne Brooksby with an open goal in added time having beat Clark to a loose ball. The match also saw influential midfielder Chris Bolder make his return to the side as a second half substitute after over a month out with injury. The Villagers are back in action next Saturday as they host Lincoln United in the FA Trophy.
