NFU 3 Hall Road Rangers 1 (ERSC Final)

Hall Road Rangers 1-3 North Ferriby United

North Ferriby United ended their fine season with some silverware, lifting the East Riding Senior Cup for the fifth consecutive year at the expense of ten-man Hall Road Rangers at the KC Stadium.

In an evenly-contested first half hour, Ferriby captain Paul Foot was the first to go close when his header from Paul Harsley's free kick was gathered by Hall Road keeper Antoni Pecora.  Pecora's opposite number Steve Wilson then pulled off a pair of terrific saves to thwart early Hall Road chances, first showing great reflexes to catch a curling shot from Adam Crane at close range, then acrobatically pushing Dave Ricardo's 20-yard drive over the crossbar.  It would be Ferriby who put their noses in front on 27 minutes through a fine solo goal by Alex Davidson.  Picking up the ball on the half way line, the striker sprinted toward goal, and with Hall Road defenders backing off him let fly from the edge of the area and found the top corner leaving Pecora routed to the spot.  Hall Road's chances of an equaliser were dealt a huge blow ten minutes before the break, when Steve Heath was given his marching orders following a challenge from behind on Gary Bradshaw, with the defender's comments to the referee afterwards seemingly triggering the straight red card.  Bradshaw fired the resultant free kick just over the bar, and Davidson nearly doubled his tally just before half time when his deep cross looked goal-bound until Pecora pushed it round the post at the last second.

In the second half Ferriby made the extra man count, dominating possession and coolly dealing with the attacks of their resilient opposition.  Wilson smothered a tight-angled effort from Tom Chippendale at close range, and Paul Harsley saw his looping header from Wayne Brooksby's cross land on the roof of the net, before a smart dive from Pecora thwarted Chris White, tipping the winger's long range effort over the bar.  Ex-Ferriby man Pecora kept Hall Road in the game again shortly afterwards when he blocked Bradshaw's low drive from Chris Bolder's corner and held onto Foot's rebound, but there was nothing he could do on 73 minutes when he rushed out to collect a White cross only for teammate Ricardo to head the ball over him and into his own net.  Just four minutes later Ferriby made the game safe, Brooksby setting up top scorer Bradshaw to find the bottom corner with a thunderous low strike.  On 81 minutes Hall Road grabbed themselves some consolation when Martin Thacker turned his marker on the edge of the box and curled beautifully into the top corner, and Thacker would come close again when he powered a free kick onto the roof of the net, and had another well parried by Wilson.
