North Ferriby United 3-2 Corby Town

A resolute North Ferriby United booked their place in the FA Trophy First Round Proper with a dramatic replay victory over Blue Square North Corby Town in a thrilling encounter at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

The visitors from Northamptonshire had the upper hand in the opening minutes, their main threat coming in the shape of Kettering loanee Jean-Paul Marna, who used his skill to beat two Ferriby defenders on the edge of the box before firing against the post.Marna later picked out Steve Towers, whose low cross was blasted over the bar by Callum Reynolds. Corby keeper Jack Drury gave his defence a scare when he spilled Russell Fry's 30-yard strike, but managed to gather the loose ball before Gary Bradshaw could take advantage. The Villagers seized the advantage two minutes before the interval. After Jordan Smith hit the post for Corby, Alex Davidson led the breakaway, picked out Bradshaw wide left and made his way into box to fire his strike partner's centre beyond Drury.

Ferriby had one foot in the next round nine minutes into the second half.Bradshaw's free kick was deflected goal-wards by Corby's Reynolds, and though Drury's block prevented an own goal he couldn't stop Brooksby tucking away the rebound.Sam Denton could have put the tie beyond doubt when he flashed a header across goal from Russell Fry's free kick, but Corby came alive in the final half hour to set up a dramatic finale. On 67 minutes a Paul Mayo corner deflected to the feet of Leon Hibbert, who slammed the ball beyond Steve Wilson to give Corby a foothold in the match, and with seven minutes left to play, substitute Matt Rhead found the bottom corner after an initial effort from Paul Malone had been blocked.Extra time now looked the most likely outcome, but a resilient Ferriby surged forward, and four minutes from time Fry struck from the edge of the area to secure a deserved victory for Billy Heath's side.Ferriby will welcome Chester to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium in the First Round on the 10th December, in the meantime they return to league action on Saturday with a trip to Buxton.
