North Ferriby United 2-1 Stocksbridge Park Steels
A confident second half display saw North Ferriby United come from behind to seal their second victory in four days as they overcame Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
The South Yorkshire visitors frequently threatened the home goal early on; Colin Marrison saw a curled effort cannon back of the post, and then Ferriby keeper Steve Wilson was in fine form to first push Chris Glarvey's snapshot from the edge of the area over the bar, then acrobatically tip a deft lob from the same player around the post. At the other end, Russell Fry sent Phil Jackman through on goal, but the striker saw his effort blocked by visiting keeper Ben Scott. Fry and Jackman would combine again soon after, the former playing in the latter for a powerful 20-yard strike which Scott did well to turn wide. However, it would be Stocksbridge who seized the advantage against the run of play on 37 minutes; Marrison converting from the penalty spot following a late tackle by Mark Greaves on Brett Lovell. Gary Bradshaw could have levelled for the Villagers before the half was out, only a last-ditch diving header from Richard Haigh stopped his cross from sneaking in.
It would be Bradshaw who brought the hosts back into the game six minutes after the interval, the striker smartly curling a free kick beyond the dive of Scott and into the bottom corner. Ferriby could have snatched the lead before the half hour mark when Chris Bolder headed down Fry's cross for Jackman, but Scott was equal to his close-range blast, and also to Wayne Brooksby's low drive that came at the end of a long, mazy run from the lively winger. By now it seemed inevitable that the home side would find the breakthrough, and it arrived on 62 minutes when Bolder raced in to nod home Fry's corner at the near post, the midfielder's third in three games. From here Ferriby held on gamely to the lead, restricting Stocksbridge to half chances, and nearly adding a third in style when Paul Harsley almost succeeded in catching Scott off his line with a lob from the halfway line.
