North Ferriby United 2 Grimsby Town 3
The Villagers lost a 2 goal advantage as The Mariners came back strongly to win an exciting game.
The first half was a fairly even contest with chances at each end. The opening minutes saw gary Bradshaw shoot straight at Mariners keeper James McKeown. Grimsby replied with a cross-shot from Liam Hearn.
In the fourth minute Bradshaw caught the visitors' defence napping at a free-kick and curled a shot just inside McKeown's left hand post to open the scoring.
Play continued end-to-end with Ferriby's Ben White being the slightly busier of the two keepers.
In the 25th minute Bradshaw was bundled over by Darren Kempson in the Town penalty area and Wayne brooksby sent McKeown the wrong way to score from the spot.
Opportunities occurred at both ends with Michael Coulson, Andy Thanoj and hearn going close for Grimsby. In reply, Chris bolder had a shot deflected for a corner and Nathan Peat saw a cross-shot go narrowly wide.
Just on half-time there was a scramble in The Villagers' and the ball was fired home by Scott Garner.
The second-half was less even in terms of possession. Ferriby found themselves under constant pressure. A James Williams foul on Serge Makofo gave Town a penalty but Anthony Elding's shot was saved by White diving to his right.
Grimsby got a deserved equaliser in the 63rd minute when Makofo headed in from close range.
Ferriby's attacks were sporadic as Grimsby continued to press and create opportunities.
The visitors' pressure was rewarded with a third goal in the 77th minute. Craig Disley's free-kick was almost a carbon copy of Bradshaw's opener for Ferriby.
Grimsby maintained the pressure to the end but peat almost gained a draw for Ferriby in the 88th minute but his cross-shot went narrowly wide.
Whilst it was disappointing to lose, Ferriby put-up a strong performance against their Blue Square Conference opponents and there were many positives from the game.
