North Ferriby United 1 Frickley Athletic 2
After controlling most of the game, Ferriby crashed to a disappointing defeat to a late goal from Frickley's James Ashmore gave the visitors a smash and grab victory.
The Villagers threatened from the start with Wayne Brooksby shooting over from 25 yards after 9 minutes. Two minutes later a Russell Fry caused problems in the Frickley goalmouth but nobody could apply the finishing touch.
Adam Billard in the Frickley goal was easily the busier of the two keepers. He was regularly in action dealing with crosses and through balls.
Billard saved well twice in forty seconds, first parrying a Wayne Brooksby shot then tipping over Harsley's 35 yard shot.
Frickley's attacks were sporadic and their only serious attempt on goal when Peter Knox was able to turn and shoot straight at Ferriby keeper Steve Wilson.
Ferriby largely controlled the first half with Paul Harsley controlling the midfield and setting-up many of Ferriby's attacks. For all Ferriby's pressure the teams went in level at half-time
Frickley started the second half with a bit more purpose with Alex Callery's long-range shot going straight to SteveWilson.
Phil jackman responded for Ferriby b shooting over. A low Sam Mulready cross was smothered by Billard before it could meet any onrushing Ferriby players.
Ryan Mallon and Peter knox went close for Frickley but it was still Ferriby who had most of the possession.
The Villagers were rewarded in the 70th minute when Jackman's cross from the left was turned in from close-range by Mulready on his debut.
Out of the blue, on 78 minutes, Frickley equalised. Ashmore pounced on a partially cleared ball and shot home from 20 yards. Eight minutes later the same player scored direct from a free-kick, the ball clipping the inside of the post as it went in.
Despite exerting pressure in the time that remained, Ferriby could not find an equaliser.
To add to The Villagers' woes, Mark Greave went-off with a hamstring injury and is unlikely to be available for Saturday's home match against Buxton.
Despite losing, this was a better performance from Ferriby with Nathan Peat plaing well in the centre of defence and Mulready having a promising debut.
