North Ferriby United 1 Buxton 4
The Villagers went down to their third defeat in eight days in yet another match that they perhaps should have won. Once again the defeat came through some slack defending and a lack of luck at the other end of the pitch.
Buxton opened the scoring in the third minute when Kieran Lugsden headed home unchallenged after a corner was headed-on.
The rest of the half was fairly in even in terms of possession. Spencer Weir-Daley and Lugsden were prominent in many of Buxton's move Paul Harsley orchestrated many of Ferriby's moves.
Buxton probably had the slightly better chances with Grant Black, Michael Towey and Martin Pembleton all going close.
The closest Ferriby came to a goal was when Scott Hartley somehow managed to save on his line after Chris Bolder's shot had been blocked.
Buxton doubled their lead on half-time when Steve Ridley scored from the spot after Nathan Peat was judged to have fouled a Buxton player.
The second-half kicked off 15 minutes late after the referee took ill during the interval.
Ferriby had most of the play in the second-half but their finishing did not match their approach play.
The Villagers pulled a goal back after 58 minutes. Gary Bradshaw's shot was parried by Hartley only for the ball to bounce off Black for an own-goal.
Shortly after, Harsley's 45 yard lob sailed narrowly wide with Hartley well outside his area after he had raced out to clear a through-ball
Ferriby continued to press. Hartley saved Nathan Peat's 30 yard shot at the second attempt. Bradshaw was closed-out by Hartley and two defenders as he shaped to score. Mathew Stirland then shot-over when well-placed
Against the run of play Neil Stevens scored from close range after 85 minutes and Weir-Daley completed Ferriby's misery in the final minute.
Once again, Ferriby will look back on this game and rue their missed chances. There is no doubt that the scoreline flattered Buxton.
Ferriby have a chance to pick-up the threads when they travel to Bradford Park Avenue on Monday evening.
