North Ferriby United 0-0 FC United of Manchester
By Graham Riley
These two sides played out a goalless draw in an evenly-matched encounter at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium, with Paul Harsley's 63rd minute penalty miss for Ferriby the closest either side came to taking all three points.
Willed on by around 400 travelling supporters, the visitors were the first to threaten, Carlos Roca teed up Stephen Johnson for a half-volley that was pushed over the bar by Steve Wilson in the Ferriby goal. At the other end, Gregg Anderson's downward header was fired just wide on the turn by Gary Bradshaw. Wilson again kept FC at bay when Matthew Wolfenden broke through on goal and picked out an unmarked Johnson, but the keeper was equal to the wideman's effort.
After Wilson had tipped a Roca effort round the post soon after half time, FC skipper Kyle Jacobs tripped Alex Davidson in the box, but Harsley's spot kick cannoned off the post and out. Visiting keeper James Spencer steered a 25-yard drive from Chris Bolder wide, and then turned a curling Bradshaw free kick clear at the near post. As the game entered its final five minutes, Wilson held onto a stinging edge-of-the-area volley from Adam Jones, and the away side were reduced to ten men with three minutes to play; Lee Neville reacted to being pulled back by Wayne Brooksby with an elbow to the winger's face, resulting in a straight red.
