Hucknall Town 3-2 North Ferriby United

By Graham Riley

North Ferriby came off worst in a topsy-turvy game away to Hucknall Town that saw them come from a goal down at half time to lead 2-1, only for the hosts to regain the lead in the closing ten minutes.  Gary Bradshaw and Russell Fry grabbed the goals for Ferriby, for whom Michael Jacklin made his debut having signed from Harrogate Town as cover for the injured Paul Foot and Paul Ellender.

Both sides had opportunities to take the lead in the opening 15 minutes, with Wayne Brooksby's ball into the box hitting the post for Ferriby and Tristram Whitman firing over for Hucknall with an acrobatic half volley.  Hucknall keeper Ross Whalin had to tip Chris White's shot clear for a corner after the winger cut inside, but it was the home team who gained the upper hand on 15 minutes when Gary Ricketts rose highest to head Dean Gent's cross beyond the dive of Steve Wilson.  Ferriby had a couple of good opportunities to level, Russell Fry spurned his when he chipped his effort just wide of the far post, and Whalin thwarted Chris Bolder when he parried the midfielder's header from Fry's corner.  Whitman came closest to doubling Hucknall's advantage, skimming the bar when he let fly from the edge of the area.

A fired-up Ferriby went on the offensive straight away in the second period, Fry sliced Tom Matthews' cross-field ball just over and Whalin punched Paul Harsley's in-swinging free kick clear.  The equaliser arrived on 62 minutes via another free kick, Gary Bradshaw finding the bottom corner with a 25-yard drive.  The Villagers nosed ahead just six minutes later, when Fry coolly side-footed home from White's ball into the box.  However, Ferriby's lead never looked cut and dried, Ricketts half-volleyed just wide from a ricochet, and on 80 minutes the Hucknall striker brought his team level, placing his shot to Wilson's left from Cashel Walters' flick.  Hucknall completed their comeback three minutes later, Dion Chambers' corner found Grant Brindley unmarked at the far post, and Wilson couldn't get enough on the defender's header to stop the ball hitting the back of the net.
