Corby Town 1-1 North Ferriby United
North Ferriby United put themselves in the hat for the FA Trophy First Round with a deserved draw at Corby Town which saw the Villagers more than match their higher-division opponents, and Billy Heath's men have every chance of wrapping up the tie in Tuesday's replay at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
Ferriby instantly showed themselves to be no pushovers, and Gary Bradshaw could have put them ahead when Wayne Brooksby's low cross picked him out at the far post, but the striker skewed his effort allowing home keeper Chris Mackenzie to gather, and Bradshaw later fired just over after cutting inside from wide right. However, it would be the hosts who took the lead against the run of play on 20 minutes; a Mackenzie restart evaded the head of Paul Foot, allowing James Ozmen to run at Wilson, draw the keeper out and slide the ball across the line. Wilson prevented Corby from adding to their advantages when strike duo Matt Rhead and Jean-Paul Marna combined to send the latter through on goal, the veteran stopper blocking the Frenchman's effort. Ferriby grabbed the equaliser their performance merited on the stroke of half time; Alex Davidson ran onto a Bradshaw through ball and fired beyond the onrushing Mackenzie into the centre of the goal.
Corby nearly regained their advantage seconds after the interval, Andy Hall's corner was headed into the path of Callum Reynolds by Phil Gulliver, but Reynolds fired wide from point-blank range, and Wilson pushed a Marna effort around the post for a corner. From here on it was Ferriby who came closest to snatching the tie. Mackenzie pulled off a phenomenal save to send a goal-bound Sam Denton free kick out for a corner, while another free kick from Nathan Peat was pushed over the bar by the Corby keeper. The woodwork then saved Corby, as Russell Fry got his head to Chris Bolder's excellent centre only for his effort to cannon off the crossbar. Bolder himself saw a curled effort from the edge of the box land on the roof of the net, and Wilson caught a dangerous chip from Rhead in the dying seconds to ensure the sides have to do it all again this Tuesday night.
