Evostik League Premier Division
Buxton North Ferriby United
Wednesday 29th March 2011 Kick-off 7.45 pm
Ferriby travel to Derbyshire o take on promotion rivals Buxton on Wednesday. Buxton are in fourth place, just two points behind the Villagers with two games in hand.
Ferriby's defeat at FC United last Saturday saw Ferriby remain in third spot but allowed thee chasing pack to catch-up a little bit. Injuries meant that Ferriby had to play a much changed team at FC United and the bad luck continued once at the ground. Sam Denton was injured in the pre-match warm-up and had played for 80 minutes with an injury before finally having to be substituted.
Although he was obviously disappointed to have lost on Saturday, Manager John Anderson said, " I can't fault the commitment of the players on Saturday. It was always going to be a challenging game and the injuries and team changes made it more so. The team played well and the first goal was always going to be crucial. Unfortunately, it was them that score it and not us."
Eight teams still have a realistic chance of taking the four-play-off spots so the pressure will remain intense in the coming weeks. It is going to be a testing time for Anderson's small squad but nobody will bet against them being in the top five at the end of the season given the attitude and team spirit of the players.
Anderson will be expecting the same commitment and effort on Wednesday that he has been getting all season. Buxton are never an easy team to beat and have a good striker in Mark Reed.
Ben Morley and Paul Foot hope to be fit enough to play on Wednesday. Definitely out are Alex Davidson and Chris White with injuries, Gary Bradshaw who is suspended for receiving 10 cautions and keeper Steve Wilson who is unavailable. Wilson's absence will allow Adam Nicklin to make his league debut for the club. New signing John Leonard will also be in the squad.
Possible Ferriby Squad: Adam Nicklin, Ben Turner, Ben Morley, Paul Foot, Sam Denton, Paul Harsley, Kevin Larvin, Chris Bolder, Peter Davidson, Russell Fry, Wayne Brooksby, James Williams, Alex Davidson, Luke Thompson, John Leonard
