Barton Town Old Boys 2 North Ferriby United 1
The Villagers went down to a somewhat undeserved defeat at Barton Town OB in their first pre-season fixture.
Ferriby exerted most pressure in the opening ten minutes but Barton should have opened the scoring in the ninth minute. A defensive mix-up left Chris Garth with an open goal but his shot hit the post.
The Villagers' first significant chance came in the 23rd minute when Nathan Peat's crossfield pass found Craig Stoddart. His cross was controlled by Gary Bradshaw but a last ditch tackle prevented him shooting.
Bradshaw was close again five minutes later when he ran on to Paul Harsley's through ball. Home keeper Dave Bramley thwarted him twice as he tried to go round him.
Barton replied through Gareth Barrow who shot straight at Steve Wilson.
Chris Bolder opened the scoring in the 35th minute when he headed home Harsley's cross following a partially cleared corner.
Ferriby's lead lasted less than a minute. A ricochet in the area found Barrow with time and space to shoot past Wilson.
The first half finished with Russell Fry heading a Danny Buttle cross narrowly wide.
Anderson made nine changes at half-time as he gave all his squad some match time.
A Wayne Brooksby corner immediately after half-time cause panic in the Barton goal-mouth but nobody could get a finishing touch as the ball bounced around.
Baron replied with a Rob Northen shot that was saved by Anton Pecora. This was followed by Bradshaw curling a 25 yard free-kick narrowly wide.
As the half progressed Barton created a number of opportunities with Northen going close on a number of occasions. It was Northern who scored the winner in the 86th minute when he converted a penalty after a harsh handball decision against Sam Belcher.
Mathew Stirland almost equalised for Ferriby in the last minute but his shot went just wide.
Whilst the result was disappointing it is of limited importance at this stage of the team's preparations for the coming season. The Villagers played their now typical passing game and there were a number of positives t be taken from the match.
